A resource for you to use...

Exam Prayer Powerpoint

Increasingly, we're being asked to provide ready-to-use PowerPoint presentations for you to look at with the young people you work with. Below you can find a selection of our most popular PowerPoint Prayers & Meditations as downloads. There is a brief synopsis for each alongside some explanatory notes.

To use the PowerPoint file, you will need to click 'save as' when you are given the option, and save it somewhere on your own computer. When you open the file, you need to select it and open it as 'read only', which will allow you to view, but not edit, the show.

If you would like to see further resources like these, please do let us know by emailing comms@nymo.org and we will do our best to respond to those things that seem to address a particular need.

The Biblical Story

The themes of the PowerPoint are drawn from a book called ‘The Drama of Scripture’, by Craig Bartholomew and Michael Goheen. If you’re interested in exploring the overarching story of the Bible, this is as good a starting place as any! The principle of the PowerPoint is that approaching the Bible as a big, thick collection of books can be really daunting for us as 21st century readers – especially for young people. Although we’ll probably always struggle with some issues of interpretation, a massive first step we can take is to familiarize ourselves and our young people with the overall picture of the Bible.

You can download the PowerPoint below. You’ll notice that it’s not password protected, and that it doesn’t (in general) run on a timed loop. This is so that you can take any bits that you find useful and reproduce them elsewhere.

To help you use this resource, please also download directions for use and a breakdown of the slides

Exams

Throughout the school year it's inevitable that many young people are concerned and anxious about exams and the pressure of decision-making. This PowerPoint presentation reflects on the very real issues surrounding exams, and how we might be comforted by what scripture says about our concerns. As the guidance notes suggest, it's intended to run with some gentle music in the background (we find chillout / ambient music genres the most suitable), and lasts about 6 minutes.

Saints

The Saints PowerPoint Prayer is intended to provide an opportunity to reflect on different areas of our lives, taking inspiration from the writings and sayings of various saints. At each stage, the viewer is offered an appropriate opportunity to respond in prayer. The order of the slides is intended to loosely reflect the journey through our daily lives: the early morning, sharing in food, setting out on our day, at school or work, the pressures of life, friendships, the natural world around us, chores, the journey home, and nighttime prayer.

Olympic Games

The Beijing Prayer Meditation was put together by the NYMO team in 2008 shortly before the start of the Olympic Games. We intended to provide a Christ focused reflection on the various aspects of the Olympics. As well as prayer for the athletes it includes prayer for Beijing, victims of the earthquake in May 2008 and for peace.
