We are currently looking for a new Youth Worker for Outreach. Matt moved on to work for the Bible Society, but below you can find details of the kinds of things Matt used to do, and the things our our Youth Worker for Outreach will do.
Matt, our Youth Worker for Outreach, spends a chunk of his time working with some of the Catholic Secondary Schools in the Diocese, complementing the excellent ministry led by NORES and undertaken by Chaplaincy teams and RE Teachers. His ministry tends to be informal, outside lesson times, and he often works directly with young people looking at particular issues or concepts.
Some of the pieces of work that he is involved with around the Diocese are:
- Facilitating mission: working with chaplaincy teams to facilitate mission experiences for young people in the school community – whether it’s for a large-scale Mission week for the whole school, or days for particular year groups or classes.
- Assemblies: covering topics as diverse as ‘Learning to drive’, ‘Presents: the real meaning of Christmas’ and ‘What is community?’, always with a focus on what faith has to say about our lives as young people in a Catholic school
- Leadership development: working on an ongoing basis with groups of students to look at what it means to be a leader, and what is meant by Christian Leadership
- Speaking at retreat days: giving students an opportunity to explore their own spirituality as part of their journey through adolescence
Matt is also currently researching issues in Spiritual Literacy, in order to develop materials for using with students who find it hard to verbalize their spiritual experiences.
For more information about any of this work, you can contact Matt on matt@nymo.org / 01844 273337.
