Joining forces can be a a really great idea - not only do you increase the numbers, generate more cash and publicity, you can also have a good time getting to know people from really far away - like the neighbouring parish!
In November, fifteen teenagers from St. Joseph's church in Chalfont St.Peter and the clustered parishes of St. Teresa's (Beaconsfield) and St. Dunstan's (Bourne End) cycled through the night to raise money for charity. During an evening of games, films, music and worship they kept the pedals spinning in a twelve hour marathon, as they took turns riding an exercise bike. When the activities changed, the bike - complete with rider - was carried from room to room. "We didn't want anyone to feel left out," explained the teenagers. And the sense of community was what made the event really special.
Together the youngsters cycled 400km and raised over £700. The funds will go towards two charities and to supporting youth activities in the parishes. |
