%231%23.jpg) lux. is our brand new discipleship programme aimed at informing and encouraging young Catholics between the ages of 11-25, and giving us all opportunities to celebrate our faith together.
In December 2009 news reached us that JK Rowling was starting a charity for under- privileged young people called Lumos. We thought this was brilliant but it meant one thing, we would have to change the name of our own, highly popular residential weekend... lumos !
So the challenge began to find a name for these weekends. We opened the net far and wide in search of a suitable replacement for this well known word.
Lumos means Light in the books of Harry Potter (hence J K Rowling's better right to use the word) and we knew the meaning of the new name would be very important for us as we move forward.
After much thought and debate we settled on the word lux.. Lux also means light but this time in the non-fictional (and church-related) language of Latin.
We were not instantly comfortable with using a word that looked so similar to lumos for the weekends.... and after much thought and prayer, we began to realise that lux. was something much bigger. It became obvious that although the weekends are very popular, there is so much more that we would like to do, but do not have the opportunity on our residential weekends.
Being able to offer some of these things in your local area had been a dream for a long time. Finding a way of meeting more young Catholics, and making it easy for them to meet us, has always been part of our aims. Could it be that lux. is our way of reaching you or the young people in your parish and offering you something that is of interest ?
