In the life of a Priest: Schools

Hosted at Our Lady of Peace Church the Schools Partnership Mass for the Slough Pastoral Area.  Monsignor Kevin McGinnell from NORES (Diocese of Northampton, Office for RE, Evangelisation, Catechesis & Schools) came to celebrate the Mass.  This was a chance for the teachers and governors and anyone associated with the Catholic schools in our Pastoral Area to come together to pray for the Lord’s blessing upon our Catholic schools in the coming year, and to thank God for the gift that they are.

Attended a Full Governors Meeting at Our Lady of Peace Junior School.  The parish priest is usually a governor of the Catholic School (if there is one) in his parish.  In my case, I’m a governor of both the Infant and the Junior School.   School governors have the task of overseeing the running of a school, and of being “critical friends” who work closely with the Head Teacher and other members of staff to help make the school the best place it can be for the students who attend.  In addition to the academic development of the students, Catholic schools also have the particular responsibility of helping the children to grow in their Catholic faith.
