Greetings from Panama! Day One

Today has been a day of travelling – a 2 hour flight to Madrid to pick up a nine and a half hour flight to Panama city.

When Pope Francis announced the next World Youth Day was going to be in Panama we all collectively asked “Where?”. First impressions of Panama City are wow! This place is full of impressive sky scraper buildings and surrounded by the ocean, it reminds me of Miami. The people are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home.

There are many familiar food chains, Burger King, Subway, Pizza Hut etc. alongside some more traditional restaurants.

Panama is 5 hours behind the UK and my body has no idea what time it is right now. The accommodation is really comfortable and I have had no trouble sleeping on the huge bed. There is air-conditioning in the bedroom, which is helpful as it is 30 degrees outside and Panama City has 85% humidity!

I have no idea what we are going to find today as we get to know this Catholic country (85% catholic population) a bit more. We are on the hunt for great accommodation for our group, the elusive World Youth Day Panama HQ and the Catholic Cathedral. Wish us luck!
